Had a friend over today who owns a bigg shop next to mine and he builds all my trannies for me, told him some problems I was having with my truck one is shifting hard from 1st to second (can break your neck) and also some weird shifting when you kick it down, shifts down then shifts right back up,anyway i asked if there was any way to tell if this had a chip or something that someone else put in,i just got the truck. 97 F350 4x4. So he began to whip out the kick panel and looked up inside the E brake area and said yep its chiped, told me pull it and see what happened said should be OK and should help with milage, well I pulled it and it said NAW6 on it. went for a drive and shifts fine barely can feel it. Is this chip on all trucks and or did someone have it reprogramed, can I leave it out, He said to get a Superchip programer and that should be all I need, witch I had before in another truck, but is this peice stock, or did someone add it. Do I need to have something there ,man is it a pain to get to.
I'll try and get a pic just has a sticker on it. just plugs into the PCM I guess never been up in there before. Just got home from work and the truck drove great, doesn't have to wind out to shift drives like a normal truck, my 78 Jeep with a built 400 tranny and a 383 doesn't shift as hard as this thing did.
Ok I was trying to add some pics but i don't have a link to do that, so sorry,Its a 3x1.5 x 1/4 Aluminum cover with a black backside with plug in sticking out has a sticker hand written NAW6 on it, maybe will help.
Yes that is an aftermarket chip. If you have tranny work done and a chip that doesn't make provisions for it that could be your problem not to mention the NAW6 shift strategy stinks! You can leave it out no problems. A superchip is ok but I recommend this for a chip if you want one http://www.totaldieselperformance.com/
Shifting is terrible, i will figure out what I want mostly good milage daily and heavy towing. So exhaust is tomorro a 4" down pipe with a Aero muffler and 4" out the back,4.30 gears are sitting in my shop waiting, a 6.0 Trans cooler installed, 6637 air with cover will have to post pic, and guages on there way pyro, trans, boost. and we'll see what happens. Thanks for the info agian.
Definately aftermarket. I have a chip from TW that tjbeggs mentioned and linked to. I love it and I tow alot and for long distances at times. I also daily drive even around town. He can get you the burns you desire and it will be custom tuned to your truck. You can change the settings on the flydepending on your demands.
that chip from totaldieselperformance.com, what settings give you the most power. It just tells applications, not the horsepower or torque ratings for each setting. Thought it was funny there was a setting just for smoke. Any input appreciated.
The extreme is the highest rated setting. In a stock injector truck the most you can expect to see is 60-80hp gains. Anymore than that and the stock injectors can't deliver enough fuel.

Thats because the whole "hose power" thing is BS... the most you can get out of stock injectors is maybe 65 ish or 70 over stock. Not the 100,140 etc that others claim it just ain't happening. I'm in the process of getting mine reburned from tony as well. He got my chip yesterday. These are the settings I'm getting burned, (Hi-Idle, Economy, Daily, Street/race, extreme, smoke) I'd think that extreme would give you most HP, but tony does more than just HP adjustments, thats why he doesn't have them listed.
I'd just give him a call would be your best bet and talk to him about what you want/are looking to get out of chip. As soon as I get mine back from him I'll let you know how it is. Hope this helps!
so what settings should I get with a bone stock truck? I have a air intake, and just had my transmission redone, and beefed up. Everything else on my 97' is bone stock. I'm extremely intrested in that chip though, best price I've seen.
Do you have exhaust also?? Defiantly want to ditch stock Down pipe and cat at the least. If you have intake and exhaust then next would be gauges, or at the bare minimum a pyrometer to keep an eye on EGT's. I'm getting gauges in April, So I'll just have to keep my foot out of it until then. As for settings, you could run what I have above, or just call Tony and ask. He could make a recommendation based on needs. Just be patient, he probably won't answer his phone, but gets back to you promptly.
