Hello everyone, good to be here, nice messageboard you got goin here! I'm Zakk from the ABE area of PA. I have a question I would like to ask of you. I have a '78 F150, with a 351M, 6" sus lift, 3" body lift. I have a 460 that I would love to put in this thing (although the 351M is a slob on fuel to begin with ) but I just wanted to know what kind of disaster im in store for before hand. I am told that a 460 will bolt right up to what a 351M bolted up to, and from what I can see that appears to be true. However, im just wondering about other stuff such as motor mounts, fan spacing, clutch linkage, flywheel, etc. Oh yeah, its a 4 speed manual with the grandma-low creeper gear. A word about that tranny. Whatever this tranny is, it must be some rare old school kind, because it didnt have a hole in the top for the backup light sending unit. I had to run the wires seperately on a toggle switch. Thats all I can think of for now. Hope to hear from you soon, good to be here. Thanks
Zakk

Have never done the swap personally, but you're not gonna' be able to bolt her right up, you need mounts, etc. It will go bolt for bolt to the C6 though. As for being a gas slob, my 351m (77-f150 4"lift)gets as good o' mileage as my 03 Ram. About 13mpg. @arm/leg per gallon!!
Hey thanks guys for the info! Im gonna love it here. Figures. I knew it wasnt gonna be a simple "bring over the backhoe, rip 'er out drop 'er in operation. Nothing is easy. Nothing. apples to apples oranges to oranges is one thing, but when you mix em......aieeeeeeee. Anyway, thanks again guys
easy swap get the brackets and mtr mts from adonor truck3/4t with a 460 and everything else falls into place use the bellhousing from a 460 and be sure you use the correct bal. flywheel, if it's a 78 or older 460 a 390 flywheel works great as they were both internally bal. engines but newer 460s were externally bal. use the pilot bearing from your 351M they fit and are needle bearing vs. bushings for the 460. the engines are so close to the same size and weight that it's very easy to swap them.
