Engine #

Okay, I have a '83 F250 with the 460 in it. The engine # is D9TE-A so this means it's a '79 engine ? Also I still can't find the head #'s

Casting numbers on the heads are above and between the 2nd and 3rd exhaust port.

Well, I spend some more time looking for the head 3's but can't find any. Is this normal ?

Okay, just went and checked the heads sitting on the bench, they're above the exhaust port 2nd from the right. Some pics I found on google.

no this doesn't mean it's a 79 engine just that it was using the D9te revision the date casting number is in the lifter gallery, and as far as I remember they used the D9 blocks clear to the end of the run on 460s.
another example of this is the D1## castings are not neccessarily 71s they used those block revisions until 78
