I have a small knock in the engine somewhere when the engine is cold, up to its normal operating tempeture. At that point the engine runs as normal with no noise or knocks. I was thinking a engine flush such as a Blistein system flush( I think thats what it is called ) might clear out some clogged oil ports and help out with removing the knock. Has anyone had this done to their engines before and how well does it work?

the engine has 63000 on it and still strong.
As far as the knock, its a knock. And it seems more pronounced from the underside of the engine. I had the dealer look at it and (beleive it or not) they said it is normal for a cold engine to do that but funny part is I have had three other rangers and not one ever had a knock. Tick yes, knock, no.
if it goes away within a minute or so of starting it, it is nothing more than the lifters being dry, until oil circulates over them. its common when the engine is cold, but otherwise, i dont know.
as for engine flushing, i was told by a mechanic that if the engine has 30-40k miles on it, its worth it, and makes a noticable difference, after that, it doesn't help as much. at 63k, you might still have some benefit from it? If you have the money and are willing, try it.
Thanks for the reply, I think I just might. Ive never heard anything more than a tick on any ranger I have had so its bugging me. I thought it might be a dry something but wasnt sure how to or what to use to prevent dry lifters or other parts.
There are some flush additives that I wouldn't let near my motor (most of which are sold during the wee hours of the morning vis a vis those cheesy infomercials)....on the other hand, I have used an will use again Auto-Rx Engine Cleaner
So for me I guess it depends on what kind of "flush" additive you are talking about...did you mean to say Rislone? I've never used Rislone it but some people over at TRS swear by it (and some others don't).

Hmm, that's the kind of stuff I was looking at but there is a oil flush(if you will) system out there that is done at a dealer or repair shop. All In all I was thinking that a clogged/partially clogged port was to blame. Once the oil has warmed up the knock is gone, or as stated above it could be a dry part at engine start. Still it remains that enough oil is not getting to where it should be getting to, hence the knock. So I think I will give your Auto-RX a try. Do you know if it is soled at auto parts stores?
By the way for anyone interested. I had the dealer look at the knock and they found a TSB stating it is normal for a 3.0 flex fuel to do that. It stated Ford did an investigation and that there is no harm done to any internal parts of the engine from this knock. It did not say which part might be the culprit for the knock, the dealer recommended not to do anything unless it gets worse.
