I bought a new fuel filter and planned on changing it out this weekend. I've never looked at the fuel system on this truck yet, when changing the filter do you have to prime it agian when your done? Thanks.
No, you won't have to prime it. Be sure to pay attention to the O-ring gasket that comes with the new filter though. The O-ring comes in two different types, depending upon manufacturer. There is the stock type, which if you look at it is actually triangular shaped and has a sharp edge on one side while the other side is flat. If you get this type of gasket, which is the best, then be sure to put the pointed or sharp side UP. It won't look right, but that's how it goes. If you get the square cut type of O-ring, then it doesn't matter which side goes up, both the same. In either case, be sure to lube the O-ring with some diesel fuel before tightening down the cap. I also drain the fuel bowl before I remove the old filter, just makes it cleaner to change the element. After you get the old element out and the bowl has been drained, look for a little hole with a screen in it about half way up the side of the bowl. Clean this hole out the best you can with some Q-Tips before putting in the new filter. Also, be sure you shut your fuel bowl drain valve before turning it over!
I have replaced fuel filter on both of my PSD's. Just removed the filter lid, lifted out the old filter and let drain, then placed the new filter in slowly (not to splash fuel) replace the filter lid and tighten. Both trucks have always started up without any problem. Not sure if it's dumb luck or what. Have fun and remember to alway reatin your OEM filter lid. If your on a road trip you could be forced to use a fuel filter that has a top fixed to the filter.
You should always drain the tub before putting in the new filter, not doing so allows all the crud that was on the outside of the filter a way into your injectorpump.
