I think mfg'ers recommend 30k miles. From under the vehicle, drivers side, just below the door handle, find the front of the gas tank. It should be tucked up between the front corner of the gas tank and the driver side rail. you'll need a fuel line tool kit from your local auto store in order to disconnect the line. kit should run about $10

I change mine every 6 to 8 months.

Here is a photo comparison of my filter and my buddy's filter.

My buddy hadn't changed his in two years.

I have a custom tune with all kinds of mods done to my Lightning so I'm probably more diligent in regular maintenance than others who have just the stock setup.

Is it hard to do and is there any problems I might run into Stewart? I don't want gas all over my driveway..

Find the fuse for the fuel filter and pull it. Crank the engine a few times (it might even start for a half second) to relieve pressure in the fuel line.

Using a fuel line removal tool (purchased at any Kragens/Autozone/Napa) disconnect the line from the filter. Have a coffee can or a few rags handy because you'll still get some gas coming from the line.

Remove and replace the filter with a new one, reconnecting the lines onto the new filter.

Turn the key on without starting the engine, allowing the fuel pumps to pressurize the line again. Then start your truck.

A bit more of an in-depth write up here.

I dunno.

But why would you have a dealership do something that's as easy as changing your oil, only quicker?

Don't be intimidated bro, it's quite easy.

Check out the links I provided above to familiarize yourself with the procedure and then get the fuel line disconnect tool from your local autoparts store and you shouldn't have a problem in the world.

Here are an assortment of different size disconnect tools:

They come in a blister pack or bag, kinda like this:

Or a size specific disconnect tool like this:

I like to get my fuel filters direct from the dealership. They don't cost an arm or a leg and that way I know I'm getting a quality filter. The only other place I'll get a fuel filter is a Napa Autoparts store.

Just remember, it's so easy, this guy can do it!

They aren't bad at all (try a gen 1 Duramax, you have to pull the inner fender to get at the filter). Although you shouldn't need any special tools, the new filter comes with new clips in case you break the old ones and you can pull the old ones out with a small screwdriver. The tool runs like $9 and you can buy it if you want but its really not necessary.
