...finally tracked down the correct numbers for the Upfitter Switches and Wiring Harness... But, I have pulled the glove box out and looked for a place to jam this nice little bracket above the glove box but I'm at a loss.
Does anyone have a decent picture where to mount the fuse holder bracket? I already did the dash disassemly to locate the other connection locations but need a hand where to mount the bracket and default location for the ground.
..thanks in advance!
No pic but I put mine in the very front (towards the seats) on the left (towards the drivers side). It crams wayyyy up in there, right above the missing light bulb. Mounts quite nicely with two screws.
You hit a nerve, I bought the Up-fitter switches and wiring harness too for my '05 F250SD and last weekend, I carefully followed FTE directions on other threads. Someone had stated that wiring harness goes behind the glove box. I found that this is the typical one on the passenger side (duh) but still was going to have to swing down the dirver side one too. Both boxes have cushioned pegs on bottom corners that should be pressed to clear the dash and swing forward and down. Harness bracket mounts obviously and simply above the glove box using existing holes (words read left to right on relays). You need (2) 10-32 machine bolts about 1/4"+. This process was the easy part that seemed to take some time. You then need to snake wiring towards the other glove box on drivers side (suggest you tape wires to route together), but as wisely stated previously, DO NOT BLOCK either glove box from closing (at one point, I remembered reading that). Several ground wire bolts to use there. I'll stop here since there are very clear instructions for rest on Tech Papers. FTE is good.
I agree with others that increased idle is a great help to warm up quickly. My second switch mod will be to connect up a new alert sensor ($35 and looks good) mounted on FRONT license plate bolts using 2 "extra" firewall wires for power (out from switch) and speaker (in from sensor). I cannot see those small cars/trucks in front when I park and want a beeping assistant. Harbor Freight Tools sells several different sensors (primarily for reversing) and I have not installed a front receiver (yet) to use a typical hitch style sensor in front. I now believe that, at a minimum, a rear sensor is a must-have for everyone and they are becoming readily available addition at low cost.
Found it... I think the key was the extra couple of beers (or so) and I finally figured it out. Took about 25-30 minutes from that point since I alreay did a dry run on the dash board loosening a week earlier.
Only prob I had with the harness was finding a good pathway behind the cup holder so it wouldn't catch, other than that - smooth sailing.
Soon as I get I'll shoot a picture of the location for the mount behind the glove box. Whole project time 40 minutes and 40 bucks!
So then the relay box sits right by the umm, what did Ford call it, CFU (main fuse box)? I guess you just rolled up that 6' chunk of wire and tied it up out of the way?
