I live in upstate NY and have been running Rotella T 15-40 in my 01 PSD, having big problems with cold starting. I bought the truck last winter and had no problems cold starting, read all the threads, thought glow plugs and or relay. Turns out, right before I bought the truck (last winter), Ford dealer changed the oil and used, you guessed it, Ford Motorcraft 15-40. So, before a snowmobile trip to Canada recently, I changed out the Rotella and used the Ford Motorcraft 15-40 just to try for chits and giggles! What a night and day difference in cold starting! Temps were in the area of 0 - 20 below Farenheit up in Canada (St. Zenon - Le Cabanon for all of you who are farmiliar, goooood time!), no plug in, truck started everyday! I have not plugged it in since (about a month) and no problems (been below zero for the past few nights)! I do wait for the fuel pump to shut off, less than 20 secs. after wait to start goes off, and it starts everyday! Did I mention, no plug in! Just thought I'd share my results. I plan on going back to Rotella when the weather warms up, but it may be worth a try for any of you with cold start problems, I know several of us use the Rotella! Oh yeah, local dealer wnated $2.68/qt., WalMart $1.00/qt! I think it was a clearance or something cause I tried to buy a bunch and they only had 20 qt's on hand! Good Luck!
I need more evidence before I believe you. Why are you not using synthetic oil?
I'm in Colorado, never plug in, but it doesn't get below 0F here very often. I never have any starting problems at all - using Rotella T synthetic from WalMart. 2000 PSD X with 106k miles.
well thats random, because i was using motorcraft 15w-40, and switched to REGULAR Rotilla T 15w-40, it's been cold here in ma, and it starts much better than the motorcraft ever did!!
worth a try for me ive done everyhing else and i went from rotella 15-40 to rotella 5-40 still wont start below 30 and its not the first time i heard about starting problems with rotella products

What are your oil changes at walmart costing you?? Are you using full or blend?
