Has anyone installed a aftermarket water temp gauge?
I am getting ready to purchase and install some gauges and was wondering if a water temp gauge would be worth it? As far as i can tell, i have never had a overheating issue that i know about.
I see in your signature that all of the trucks are auto's so.... I think that if you are going to be towing alot then I would get a tranny temp gauge, before a water temp gauge, with the massive size of the cooling systems you have to be short on antifreeze before they will start to over heat, not that I know that my 97 has the tranny guage. with the '96 I went with the water temp gauge first, cuz it will be awhile before i tow anything with it, at which time i will get a few more gauges, i am thinking I will have a total of 7 aftermarket gauges by the time I am done.
I know that the usual big three (boost, pyro, trany) are a must, but i was thinking about getting a 4 gauge pillar. I would also like some opnions on weither or not a 4 gauge pilliar setup would be a little obnoxious.
I've never seen 4 gauges on the pillar. You'll have to mount one elsewhere. Along with the other three, water temp would be a good choice. Another popular gauge is a true oil pressure gauge.
I have seen the new 4 gauge pillar for the S.D. made by the same company that makes the three pillar. If it were mine I would get an oil gauge. cuz like I said before these trucks are realy over cooled and of everything to monitor the water temp is actually one of the last on my list.
If you really want a forth gauge consider an honest to goodnes real Oil Preasure gauge to supliment the pseudo preasure gauge (actually an idiot light in disguise) that comes stock.
thanks for the help guys, i think i am going to go with the 3 gauge setup so i won't have to worry about the sunvisor hitting the gauge pod. Then later after some other mods, i think i might get another 3 gauge (underdash) pod for oil press, water temp, and volts.
