I don't have a ford truck but I haven't found any suggestions for my problem on any other websites. Thought maybe someone here could help. I have a 2000 Ford Winstar and I am sorry Enthusiasts, I have been less than enthusiastic, My most recent problem is a thumping sound that is especially loud when I turn the heater on, which has been a problem in this midwestern winter. It is less intense when I turn the heat off but still present, almost sounds like a belt is loose. I am ignorant when it comes to cars but don't want to appear that way when I take it in to be looked at. Any suggestions? I assume it has something to do with the heating and air conditioning and I opened the hood, why I don't know but couldn't see anything, it sounds like it is in the dash. Expensive to fix?
could it be a plenum door that is thumping? THis will usually only happen when you hit the gas or brakes really hard, but if it is a plenum door, then you have a bad or loose vacuum line.
It might just be the blower or blower motor. When they go bad they will make a noise. It should speed up and slow down when you change the speeds on the fan. It is not a big or expensive deal to have repaired.
