Trapshooting

Any big trapshooters out there?

Just wanted to see how many shoot trap regulary, either just for fun or something like ATA registered shooting.

I shoot trap quite regulary throughout the summer, both for fun and competition in the southern/mid Illinois area.

I have gone a few times. Last time I went, I had my dog with me. That was a mistake. First my buddy almost shot him as the dog jumped at clay pigeon at the same time my buddy shot at it (good thing he is a bad shot). A few minutes later the dog tried to catch one out of the launcher. The arm just nailed him right in the jaw and the dog went almost as far as the pigeon. Needless to say the dog doesn't go with us anymore.

Love Trap!!!

I broke my neck almost 4 years ago. I can't get my face down onto the stock and follow the 'birds'.

Gotta strain to get the ole body to shootin' position.

18 grains of Red Dot under a 1-1/8th oz of #8s. 1200 fps!!!

Dust 'em!!

I use 18 grains of green dot with 1-1/8 of either 7.5 or 8 shot. About 1150 fps and not heavy on the recoil. Use that load from 16 to 27 yards.
What kind of gun do you shoot? I use an old Perazzi TM1 and a Browing Citori special trap edition.

I like shooting trap a lot. I don't compete, but I'd like to try that out too. I have a range behind my barn, I can do and shoot anytime I want!

I find its really only fun when you do it with some of your buddies, especially if they dispense "useful advice" hehehehe

I use a NE-arms single shot 20-gauge, that I've had for over 5-years, and Federal 7-1/2 shot. Nothing very special. But I have fun doing it.

Alvie.

Used to shoot trap and skeet with a club, now defunct. Really ticked off some of the older guys when I won a skeet comp using a mossberg pump. Moved my skeet avg up to 24 when I bought an Armsport 12g over/under.

Don't shoot much anymore, but when I do i enjoy a 'Sporting Clays" park south of San Jose. They have trap machines in bunkers and you go down a path in the woods and savannah to different stations. You shoot up, down, (a hill) through trees, etc. The double barrel (with selector) helps because you can run two different chokes and use the best for your shot.

I shoot a lot of clays. Hand thrown and machine thrown. I'd like to do it competitively, but my work schedule won't allow it.

I shoot a Rem 11-87 with 17.5 grains of Red Dot with 1 1/4 oz of 7.5 shot with Remington High Brass XP or something like that hulls.

I have a Remington 1100 Magnum that I bought in '83 for goose hunting.
30" Full Choke. Not much good for anything now, since steel shot is required.
I bought a Hastings 24" barrel with screw in choke tubes. I love that barrel!!
I have found that I can shoot with that little 24" barrel better than with longer barrels. Trap, pheasants, squirrels, dove. Great little combination.
That shotgun feels like a 20 ga.

I have a Beretta Silver Pigeon, too. 12 ga. 26" barrels. Choke tubes.
Shweeeeeeeeet little O/U.

Similar to what e1p1 said, it 'ticks' off the other shooters when I use a field gun and beat 'em at Trap. Hey . . . it's just a game.

300,

Whenever I finally quit quail hunting on wild birds and at preserves I shoot skeet and trap. Bethalto is about an hour and a half away from where I live, do you go to rend Lake area to trap shoot at ATA stuff or is there a range closer to where you live?
Will you be going to the new range at Sparta when it opens?
