Hood hinge removal

How do you remove / replace the hood hinges on a 1986 extended cab Ranger? Mine have been damaged (bent out of shape) in two separate incidents, and I think it would be easier to align the hood with "new" hinges than with the current ones, if I can get them off. Please help. Otherwise, I am looking to simply put my motor & tranny in a diffent gen1 ranger extended cab. If anyone has one for sale close to Owensboro KY please let me know. Thanks.

Anyone ever tried this? Is it worth the effort?

I thought the hinges would be bolted to the firewall and the hood.

They are bolted to the hood, but they go through the firewall. I think the cowl is welded in place, and I can't see any way to get them out except to take off the cowl and pass them throught the holes in the firewall. I'm going to look at them closer tomorrow, but I was hoping someone had done this before and could just let me know how easy of a job I was getting into.
