Torque Converter

Have a 99' 250 with 7.3 and was told that the real loud rattle was from a bad torque converter. Anybody heard of this before.

I have that loud rattle too occassionaly when it shifts. Not sure what it is, but would like to know. If ya hear anything lemme know! Thanks.

It's a real common problem on the '99s. A new torque converter is the only solution.

If your TC is rattling or pinging, then consider it dying. Basically that noise is your first symptom of a bad TC and it will get worse.

What happens when the TC goes out completely? What will it sound like immediately before the failure? My truck just up and quit last week. No gears at all. Just proir to the failure, it made a grinding noise the just stopped moving.

My Torque converter went bad w/ 95k on it -- and has killed the tranny too. I would suggest to replace the TC as soon as possible since a TC/Tranny replacement is in the $3000-$3500 range and a TC replacement is in the $500-$800 range.
