I have a 78' f-150, 2wd, auto, with column shift.
I located a tilt column from a 79 bronco 4x4 with column shift.
Can i swap this column into my truck?
Boy, this got confusing quickly! LOL yes, a 4X4 tilt steering column will fit a 2 wheel drive. They are the same column. What you will need however is the coupler that a 2 wheel drive used that a 4X4 didn't. Many 78/9 non tilts had this same coupler. If your old column doesn't have a removable coupler (splines on both sides) you will need to find one but they are readily available and also fit ford vans with tilt. This coupler is actually the same a regular 2 wheel drive coupler but has an extra piece on top with splines to attach to the column. Like I mentioned, many 78/9 non tilt 2 wheel drive columns already have these but not all as some have a welded on flange. Earlier trucks all had a welded on flange but for some reason ford changed it as time went on. Hawkrod
