Recently when I tried to start the truck it would sound like the starter was getting stuck. I would have to turn the ignition switch back and forth to get it to stop. Now it will not turn over at all. This is an 86 Ford Ranger 4cyl F/I. Thank You for any help.
Has the vehicle been sitting a while?
Sounds like the starter drive has locked up in the DRIVE position.
Is the Battery charged up?
If not,Try starting it with a charged battery.
If it still won't *Turn the engine over*,you will probably have to get down and remove it,once it's out grease the shaft and *bench test it* a few times before re-installing it.
If it won't work while it's on its own out of the vehicle ,it's time for a new one.
