If I've got a C-6 from an 80 f-250, which used to be bolted up to a 400, would that bolt up to a 351 cleveland or windsor? I'm building a 46 1.5 ton truck.
They are correct, will only fit 351M, 400 or big block. I would reccomend you putting in a 351W or 302 in your ole truck. I've got an old truck I put a 400 in and wish I would have stuck with the 351W that I had in it. Parts for the 351M and 400 are much harder to find, at least in my area!

I've been reading about the 351m, I guess it never met its potential because of emissions equipment. So are they really that bad? I guess it would be dumb to pick what engine to use based on what tranny you have. This is a 1 1/2 ton truck, so i like the idea of using a C-6, not a C-4, wouldnt that be a little beefier?
Is the difference just the bellhousing? Could the C-6 fit on the 351 or 302 with the right bellhousing?
Yeah..... I would stay with the C6 tranny, but dont go out and buy a 400 or 351M just to match the tranny you have. The C6 is very popular and there are many out there to fit a 351W or 302. I'ts just that the bolt pattern is larger for the 351M and 400's and you can not switch out bellhousings, it's all molded together. I'm not discouraging you from the 400, i'm sure you can build them to do OK, but from my experiance, if I had it to do over again I would stick with the 351W!
