Anyone have any opinions on a Sony Vaio PCG-FX340 laptop computer ? I have the chance to pick one up for $375.00 . They will install any software I want . It's in excellent shape. I wouldn't mind a back up for my desktop .
make sure the software is legitament, licensed (in your name)copys of the software including the operationg system(XP) and they give you the originals of the software along with the prduct key codes needed to activate the software.
I don't know about that particular model number, but I have owned a Viao for 3 years. I lug it around daily as I use it in my teaching and I have never had any type of problem with it. I would not hesitate to purchase another one.
You may want to ask if it has the original battery. Laptop batteries are not cheap. Also, move the screen back and forth a little while it is running to make sure the connection is not going flakey.
Thanks for the replys/input. I forgot to mention my cousin, who works for Sun Microsystems, is selling it. He can install any O/S and tons of what ever I want, if I decide to buy it. He says it's in perfect shape. Guess i'll check it out. Again thanks.
One word of caution: Don't expose it to high humidity.
I had the CDRW/DVD crash on mine, rendering utterly useless for what I wanted it for.
If this does happen - don't even consider replacing the internal CDRW/DVD, its much cheaper and simple to just go with an external 5-in one CDR/CDRW/DVD, such as a MAD DOG unit, which is what I currently use. It plugs into any of the USB sockets on it.
I'm on my second Viao, The first I got in 1998 and this one I have now in 2003. They have never given me one iota of trouble. I am not easy on computers, but the VIAO's seem much more durable than other brands. I will go out of my way to buy a VIAO for my next computer.
