I am buying a notebook to use as a desktop replacement. Do any of you who are doing this just use the computer keyboard or do you have a larger remote keyboard?
Not a problem. You can even use an external mouse and monitor and never have to open the notebook screen. I actually find most notebook keybaords to be cramped...and I HATE those touch pads for mousing. Any Notebook mage in the last 10 years should already have ports for the mouse, KB, and monitor.
You can get a cordless mouse and keyboard if you want as well. If you plan on using this configuration a lot, and want to simplify the cords, then get a docking station and an external keyboard, mouse, speakers, and monitor, and your printer and whatever else can go in there, too. You can even reuse all of the ones that you have now to save money if you want. The docking station is very easy to use, you just slide the laptop in and out as you want to.
Many new laptops no longer have ps2 ports. If so, you need a kybd & mouse with usb connectors. If you use a usb kybd you may have to activate support for it in the bios.
I use the microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse and its great. Keeps the wear and tear down on the high priced laptop. It would be a good investment to get a USB port expander. It'll give you 4-8 more ports for other stuff like printers and cameras without having so many wires strung across the desk.

I agree, the keyboards don't give you enough room. And the touch pads don't always work first time.I tried my cousins and had a heck of a time using the thing.
