I asked this question in my other introduction post but it didn't seem to get any attention so I will try again. I am buying a used 93 F250 and after the PO did some work where the instrument cluster was removed the odometer displays "error" instead of the mileage. I have heard that there is a trick to reset it back to the proper display but have not been able to find the exact steps so does anyone know how to reset the odometer display so it is correct. It's not a huge deal to me but it would be nice for checking mileage etc... The speedo and all the other gauges still work fine so it seems like it is just a factory trip to alert anyone that the mileage may not be accurate because the truck may have been tampered with ???

I am looking at a 95 factory manual - should be the same for 93. Please do the following and write down the display that you get. Need to know your axle code from the vehicle info tag on door pillar and tire size presently installed. Does the display show "Error 3" or just "Error". If it shows just "Error" the manual says to replace the instrument cluster; if it shows "Error 3", the conversion constant needs to be re programmed.
Press and hold "reset" button on speedometer; turn key to "Run" and release "Reset" button Display should read " E 08 6" - E means English units/o means overseas units; 08 is ROM level and 6 is the number of times the conversion constant can be reset (6 is max). It will be locked out after 6 resets and cluster will need to be replaced.
Do not have experience at this just reading manual. Once you the reading turn off key to exit test.
Post back with info and anybody with experience with this please jump in.

mine says error and when I reset it it says E 08 3 then I turn the key off and back on and it goes back to error
If the odo display shows "Error" then the EEPROM inside the PSOM(speedometer) is bad or corrupted. Either way there is no easy way to fix it beyond replacing the PSOM(speedometer). The mileage is lost unless you can read the EEPROM with a programmer and trying to reprogram a good EEPROM. That had been discussed here on FTE just search.
For "Err 3" you might get lucky and reset the conversion consonant value like other have said.
