timing

Could anyone tell me what the specs are for timing a 78' 351 Cleveland Im not sure how many degrees above top dead center I should go.

Are you in Australia? They did not put Cleveland engines in anything in the US after about 73 or so.

Regardless of which engine it is, if the mechanical and vacuum advance systems in the distributor are working correctly, just keep advancing until it pings and then back it off a little at a time until it no longer pings. You should use a timing light to check avance mechanisms and then use the timing light to make note of setting after you have done the trial and error setting.

i have a picture of mine that was on the valve cover in my gallery but it's for a 351M with manual trans (1978) maybe that will help to get a start..
go by MBDiagMag's instructions if it pings

YA THERS NO 351C IN 1978 THE TIMMING IS 6 DEG BTD WITH VACUM LINES ON TDC WITH THEM OFF

I use 38 degrees total and don't worry about the initial. just a suggestion
