I own a 1980 Bronco and unfortunently it has the independent front axle! ! i was wondering what i need to change it to a solid front axle? Since this is one of the first bronco's with the independent axle in the front will it be easier to do the swap? i know very little on the topic and was really looking forward to hearing from everyone on this site, since they've helped alot in the past. thank you for your time.
Why do you need a straight axle? What kind of plans do you have for this bronco? The TTB is a pretty good setup, its just a bit finicky. Is the stock setup giving you hassles?
Check the tech article section of FTE. Just printed off a copy of a detailed article on swapping a 1978 F150 solid front axle onto a 1995 F150. Should be very similar. Sounded fairly easy.I think it would be much better than that ... TTB.

Got an F250 with the Dana 50 TTB and had a Bronco with the Dana/Spicer 44 TTB, never had any problems with them off road every day. Just part of the job on unimproved development areas. Oh, the F250 has 240,700+ miles and the Bronco had over 130,000 when I sold her (my biggest recent mistake) and she is still going strong. Just curoius what makes them a ... fellow Georgian?
full size bronco's web site has a whole forum devoted to SAS. there are different ways to do it. Leaf vs Coils and they have many of both. I did the leaf swap on my 95 Bronco with a 85 D60 and it was not that hard. Others go with the 78 79 D44 because they were setup for coils.
