Did ford make a hi preformance 390? I had a guy tell me that since my 390 had power by ford valve cover meant it was a hi po maybe. I didnt know if they made them. I am pretty sure they are the covers orignally on the motor but dont know about the hi po
Im pretty sure all the valve covers ive seen all said Powerd by ford on them. At least the motors ive had had them on the covers anyay. So i think that is false.
Someone will know for sure.
FWIW, my old 76 360 had the original "powered by ford" VC's and it definitely wasn't hi-po. Every other FE I have ever seen that didn't have aftermarket VC's had the powered by ford on thiers too.
Ford knew that us left-brain, testosterone driven types would rather pronounce half words that were easier to remember.
The performance packages typically had a higher compression ratio, hotter than stock cam, 4V carb, and came in cars. I think it'd be hard to warranty one in a pick up when farmer Brown is going to work the thing all day.
Yeah The engine came out of car in a wrecking yard. Dont know what type my dad might know he is the one who bought the truck new then put the motor in it. But over the years it went down hill. Now I have it. But I didnt think it was one but Like I said this guy was telling me but I didnt know. Thanks for the info.
The 61-62 390 HP engines used the "thunderbird" embossed valve covers. The "power by ford" embossed valve covers started in 67. If you have a set of original chrome plated ones in really good shape they are selling for very good money right now. G.
The 66-67 Fairlane GT had 390 Hi-Pro engines, I think they were listed as 335HP. I have one in my 66 F-100 4x4 and it works very good in this truck. I took it out of the Fairlane in 1970 when it had 40k miles on it.
