I have submitted my application to A&M, but im wondering about my chances of getting accepted. I'm in the top 15% of my class, and my SAT scores are 1030. What do ya'll think my chances of being accepted are? I applied as a Business Administration major (Mays School). What do you think my chances are of being admitted there? Ive also been looking at staying in the Commons dorms, due to the ammenities offered. Has anyone stayed in those dorms, or any others? BTW, the "infamous" Hotard dorm is being torn down after the current spring semester. I know someone that was in the top 25% of their class, and made a 1020 on their SAT's and got accepted, but he is also in the Corps. I have heard horror stories about the coprs, and im not interested in being in the corps. Also, when did you find out that you were accepted? The application deadline was 2/1, and im wondering how long it will be before i hear back from them.
Your SAT scores are a bit low, but they pretty much take almost everyone who is about top 20%. I know one guy who got in who was the top 11% and had like a 820. You should know by May for sure, but its a shame you gonna be an Aggie. WRECK EM TECH!
Well, I was lucky in the acceptance process in that they pretty much take all the national merit kids they can get, so it wasn't exactly a nail-biter. I'd say you have a good chance, and I sure hope for your sake you get in. I moved 1200 miles from everything familiar when I was 17 years old to become an Aggie, and now at 24 I'm back working on a Master's Degree there. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world! You should probably hear something about acceptance by May at least, as they'll want you to register for Fish Camp and New Student Conferences. I stayed in a commons dorm during my new student conference, and they didn't seem too bad, but for the two years that I lived on campus I was in Legett Hall and I am a little prejudiced toward Northside. Northside dorms tend to be a little more laid back and open, while the Southside tends more toward frat daddies and so-hos. Also, you're within stumbling distance of Northgate!! Of course, without Bonfire dorm unity really is nothing to what it used to be, in this old Ag's opinion. And I'm not sure I'm going to be able to pass Hotard while they're tearing it down, even though I haven't set foot in there for years. I guess that's the end of Hotard from Hell too, another Aggie institution. Anyway, I don't want this to turn into a bad bull sermon, so I'll rest now and just say that I'll be happy to answer any other questions I can for you.
NDrum2005, welcome to Aggieland. I hope you make it and all things considered, I think you will. The freshman year at A&M is the hardest for most students. You will have the temptation to go to the parties. I would suggest that you don't. Most of the freshman year never makes it to the sophmore year because they are busy having a good time. Remember that you are there for an education. It usually only requires 4 years of your dedication and then you will have a diploma from A&M and THEN, the party begins for the rest of your life. Best of luck.
You know how to tell who is the Longhorn cheerleaders?
good luck dude. I applied straight out of highschool and didn't get in, now I'm doing time at the community college hopin' to transfer.
and I do want to be in the corp.
Got a sister that graduated there '04, got the sticker on my truck in the gallery.
I plan on goin there in 3 years (freshman now) and gettin in various ag classes and hopefully large animal vet& surgery. I was worried about makin it in but I hear now they're practically begging for people to do LAV. What is your GPA if you dont mind me asking. Mine turned out a lil low this go around but I got time to work and I was wonderin what i should shoot for. And this question definitely applies to current A&M students. Thanks for the help and good luck to ya.
'51--Don't get too comfortable with yourself, I've got a horror story for you. A friend of mine is about to finish his undergrad, he would've graduated last year, but that's where all this comes in. He started out as biomedical science, but I think he switched over to animal sci-sci option, and applied to vet school for this year. He had nearly, if not actually, a 4.0 (in college), his grandad was a very well respected Aggie vet, he had worked for the vet school breaking horses for about 3 years while he was in school, and was/is planning on a large animal practice. He didn't get in. He decided to stay an extra year and add an ag business minor and reapply for vet school, I don't know if he got in or not, but there's something badly wrong with the system if he didn't. There's no such thing as a sure thing. Moral of the story is work your butt off and hope you get a little lucky too. I don't know what kind of GPR A&M looks for in undergrad admissions, they've got a minimum posted somewhere in their requirements, but your essays and such are an important part of it too. Don't write the same crap everyone else does.
You ought to get in fine. Also, as a side note, they do not even look at what major you put down when you apply. Your SAT scores arn't bad, in fact that is probably about what most top ten percenters have. However don't get sad when you don't hear anything for a while, as they sometimes can take until april b4 you get a response. Another thing you might want to consider, if you havn't already, is to send in a few letters of recomendation. They put anything you send into your folder, so the more the better right?
Commons are alright.... however they could use some improvement. If you are loking to stay on campus, you definately want to be on the Southside, but I would put one of the modulars as your first choice. They are a bit newer, much larger rooms, and have their own bathrooms. The commons were built back in the 70s, and really have not changed since then. But in the past few years they have built many NICE off-campus student housing which are actually quite affordable. Take for instance the cambridge, they are top notch rooms, very nice, pool, game room, fitness room, etc, and with the unlimited meal plan it comes out only a couple hundred bucks more than living on campus. And most students would pay much more than that to get away from campus, and campus food, after the first few months.
Is the Mays Business school hard to get into? I was also thinking of getting a laptop instead of a desktop so i can work outside of my dorm room. Do many people actually take their laptops to class, and use them there? Anyone here attended the Mays school?

I just got out of college last year. I would definitely go with a laptop (unless you are planning on playing games more than doing homework). I found the laptop to be much more useful. I took my laptop to class all the time. Our school had a wireless network in all of the classrooms (as well as dorm rooms). The only problem with a laptop in class is that it's hard to focus on class and not on the ford trucks forums.
Just make sure you take care of your laptop! Buy a nice case to keep it in. I worked in IT at the university and have seen a lot of laptops broken for stupid reasons. (fell asleep on the top bunk, rolled over and it fell to the floor. Left on the roof of the car. Etc.)
when first entering the college, like I said it doesn't matter what you put down as your major, they look at them all the same. Your major choice has no effect on whether or not you are accepted. Now, on another note, If you are considering majoring in some business field, definately do that either now or at your new student conference, as once you become a student business is one of the ahrdest to transfer into because so many people want to. before you actually start college you can pick any major, but once you are in you have to apply with that specific college to change. They make it a real pain in the butt.
My daughter was going to Baylor (on scholarship) when she went to visit some friends at A&M and fell in love with it. She graduated, married an Aggie, and now has four future Aggies. Good luck!
