Question Heater Control Help...Missing Pieces???

On my 77 F150, I have the interior torn out for a resto. After searching through my LMC catalog for replacement goodies, I noticed in the exploded view of the heater controls that there is a heater valve. It looks like it's vaccum controled, but I can't tell for sure. Now once I removed the entire heater assembly, I noticed my truck doesn't have this valve. Also, there are no vaccum line inside the cab, nor does there look like any belongs. This truck does not have AC at all. Best I can tell, is that this valve keeps the hot air from coming in while the AC is on. Before I parked the truck, the heater/defrost worked fine, and when I turned it off, there was no hot air coming from the vents.

Now here's the question...

What exactly does this valve do, and is it supposed to be on a truck without A/C?

Thanks for the help guys...

Mike

The non-AC trucks don't have any vacuum controlled components.
