Trying to get all the info I can on this mod started over at the diesel stop. Has to do with installing either a vaccum controlled or manual valve in the heater hose suction side. This prevents hot water from circulating thru the heater core thus allowing the air to get colder. Sounds like it will work and several folks say it does. Anybody here have the specifics for an "X"?
I asked this over on theX site, Is this mod already done on the v10`s. I`ve got a 2000 and on the pass. side I`ve got what looks like the same vac. activated device on there. Does anybody know?
Hey Monsta, Last Summer down in Orlando, the a/c seemed to "warm up" in stop and go traffic. Out on the open road it was adequate, but not a meat freezer by a long shot. I haven't put the guages on yet to see if it could be low on refrigerant. So I don't really know if I have an a/c problem. But with temps here down in dixie over a hundred degrees, every little bit helps....especially when the truck has been out in the sun. Plus, it looks like an easy/straight forward mod...so why not? Yea MONGO, I started looking into this when I read your post. Thanks.
I have a 2002 X and see strange hoses that I don't understand under the hood.
Example is I see what looks like a heater hose coming out of the top of the intake manifold, it goes to a heater control valve. It also has a second, smaller hose that goes to the valve cover?
If this is the return line, It would be fairly simple to add a shutoff valve just for when I am traveling in the summer or towing and in heavy traffic.
Does anyone know if this is the return line?
Just got my X a couple of weeks ago and today has been the warmest day yet at 75 degrees. It sure didn't feel very cold coming out. I think it needs some help. It definately wouldn't be classified as a meat freezer.
Here is a pic so you can see what I am talking about.
First time I have posted pics to the web. Click on the second photo and then click on the Full Size link and you will see the detail of the hose configuration.
I think this "mod" may actually be factory. Does anyone know for sure? I need a second person to move the controls so I can see for sure. Sorry for any confusion but I'm still learning.
The a/c on some super duties etc. is a real issue. It has been discussed here at length. (probably over a hundred different posts with all sorts of ideas). If you do a search or two, even just limited to the superduty forum, you should find lots of info. If you have trouble finding the threads, (mostly from last spring, summer and fall), post back here and I'll find them. I also have a few of the posts with the more helpful info saved on my computer. I have not done any modification myself yet, but I live in Oregon, not Dixie!
I have never thought about if it is more of a problem with the V-10 engine. Mine is a V-10 and I have the classic too warm a/c.
Well thanks to a sunny 53 degree day and a chance to get at a closet full of mods,I had time to get in to A/C Mod. I had ordered the Air Conditioning Control Valve Kit just in case I was wrong, but I opened the box and inside IS the same valve that is allready on the V10 Excursions ( I don`t know about the PSD`s Excursions but I would guess it`s done on their`s too). Case solved, plus I`ve got alot of F250`s F350`s that want this kit around here
Just to clear up some confusion I have on this thread. Are you saying that the V-10 Excursions already have the a/c mod (or from factory) that cuts the flow though the heater core? Even with this mod, you are still not happy with the a/c performance?
