small grey vaccum hose

Today while checking transmission fluid I noticed a small grey vaccum line hanging loose. It comes up over the heater fan and runs by the a/c metal lines. It is pulling vaccum but I can't find where it goes. It appears my truck, a 2004 does not have a heater valve. Does anyone have pictures of this part of the engine or know where it is supposed to plug in.

Whle checking things the other day, I found a dangling grey vacuum hose in the vacinity of the oil fill and transmission dip stick. It goes to the heater valve which is in the top heater supply hose. This valve is a bit hidden behind the oil fill. You might want to check again and see if the valve is hidden back there.

I checked again. Traced the hose its entire length. No heater control valve. Were some trucks built without them? Should I just plug the hose?

My truck is an 05, 04 model motor, and mine is there. If you follow the hard coolant line around the alternator, it turns to a soft hose that is bent into an S shape and the valve is right after(above the EGR cooler closest to the cab). Not trying to say yours is actually there...i just know how easy it is to overlook things with all of the stuff slammed under that hood.

As I understand it, the heater control valve on some years is only on Crew Cab's and Excursion's. Mine doesn't have one. But it doesn't have the hose for it either. That hose has to go somewhere.

Yes thats the one. Mine was hanging lose but where yours is attached doesn't seem to have a hole or its too small to see. Thats where I plugged it into as it is drawing vaccum and I wanted to plug it. Is it just a test hose for hooking something too? I'm also concerned that I don't have a heater valve. I'm wondering if the prior owner took it off if he had to replace the heater hose.

My buddies 03 extended cab doesn't have the valve next to the tranny dipstick. He doesn't have the hose either.

If you start the truck, is vacuum being drawn from your hose? If it is, your pump would never stop running. At least throw a golf tee in there until you find out where it goes.

Thanks for all the information guys. This hose would have drove me crazy trying to find where it should go. The picture was great! This Ford site is simply amazing. You find a problem in the morning and by that night is is solved.

The trucks with automatic temp control had the heater valves and the trucks with manual didnt from what I understood. On the manual ac trucks that hose (if its there) would hook to the evap case on a dummy nipple just to plug it.

BTW if you want to add a heater control valve you can just plug that hose onto it and it will cut the heater flow off in max a/c.

I also have this hose loose. There are 2 nipples on my heater valve. The nipple on the front of the heater valve is much shorter than the one on the top of the heater valve. I have manual heater control. Also a long bed crewcab fx4 2005 xlt. Which one of these nipples does this grey hose go into? Build date on this truck is 3/2005. Also the hubs don't lock into 4x4 unless I get out and manually lock them myself.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Sonny
