Just like many ofthe b2's u may see on the road today, my truck is getting really tired in the rear. i was wondering if i should put the money into a lift, new leaf springs, add a lift , or just some blocks and longer u bolts. im looking for the best and cheapest way. haha. any help or insight wouldbe greatly appreciated. thanks, ~Aims~
you can get explorer coil springs and leaf springs they can give you 1.5 to 2inch lift
91-94 4x4 auto 4dr explorer one way to go
or just get some add-a-leafs and some coil spacers.
I'm in the process of putting blocks under the leafs to fix the sag. I want new springs, but for the money I'll try this first. BTW, if you decide to go this route, plan on using lots of PB Blaster or equivalent, a heavy breaker bar and an assortment of jacks (incl. a hi-lift) and jack stands to make life easier. If this $50 fix actualy works, I'll be amazed. Oh, and keep the old U-bolts and stuff in case you hate the look/ride quality once you get it done. Good luck, RC
In the last issue of Bronco Driver I recieved they had a page dedicated to cheap upgrades for the BII. They had a cheap fix for the saggin rear end that I am going to try this weekend. Take the rear shackles off of a 1990 series Chevy 1/2 Ton pickup truck. I know its Chevy and all but in the rag they said it will give your truck about 4 inches in the rear. I would assume this would take some of the stress off of those rear leaf springs. I will post pics on my cardomain site after Saturday and you can check the results for yourself.
those are chevy rear lowering shackles they use the same setup from ranger/bronoc2
give can give you anywhere between 2-4 inch of lift in the rear depending on truck
not all rangers/bronco are the same.
I wouldn't necessarily do any heavy wheelin' on them (yet), but the lift blocks I just put on have made a world of difference in the ride quality and appearance of my saggy BII. My rear shocks don't bottom out coming up the driveway, and I extensively "road tested" them out in the ruts & dips in the back 40 at both high and low speed and they have held up so far. I don't know what axle wrap is (yet) but there is no noise or vibration coming from the back axle. I would just add to put on the cast iron blocks and not these cheesey aluminum ones from the zone because I'll always be driving with that thought in the back of my mind... what happens if a bolt or 2 gets loose or the block breaks and I loose a block going down I-70. Cheap fix and fairly easy to do yourself, if you enjoy hurting real bad the next day or 2 from taking off nuts/bolts installed 20 years ago.
*** The thing I hate *** now that I have a level rear end, you can see the bright, shiney aluminum blocks from behind the truck and it looks gay. Yet another reason to get the black cast ones, or paint them, or save for a REAL long time and just get a new truck or lifted springs (they cost about the same) I don't know if any of this info has helped, but for $30 + a deeeep 3/4 & 18mm socket I don't think you can go wrong on a truck with 250k miles on it. Godd luck, RC
Stopped by the junk yard today and decided against the shackles off the Chevy. Spoke with the local welder in town and he is going to work me up some 1960's style fab shackles for the rear end with multiple holes for different settings to get rid of the sag and adjust for different ride quality ....should be interesting. I will keep ya all updated on how things go with that and what not.
Tomorrow is the big day for my little pig. Getting a 2" body lift installed along with new body bushings that I ordered from Duff, traction bar (the baby one from Duff) and a steering stabilizer.
Will post back with whether I am satisfied with the upgrades and the 33" tires.
Good luck to you guys with your rear end endeavers
Actually I was up at Pep Boys about a month ago just browsing throught their stuff, and they have shackles for the rear, and they have several different settings so you can select the lift height you want. Hopes this helps.

Lets just clearr this up a little.the X springs will give you about 2" over STOCK ride hight.
I just did this swap to my 89.and the ride is great handles 100% better and I can rub 31"tires with out rubbing!!!
With blocks you still have a WEAK spring. If you hual anything you still have a sage, with the X springs you can haul anything with little ot no sage. Also remember that you have 23 gals. of fuel on the back end.
I would do the X spring swap even if you do lift your BII.
