A couple of months ago my 1972 F100 360 Custom that I have had for almost 20 years committed suicide by driving into a parked car. I recently purchased a 1975 F100 Custom. The truck was a one owner and is in great shape. The owner did several modifications to the truck. Originally it was a V6 with a three speed on the column. It is now a 390 with a C6 automatic with a Z-gate floor shift. I notice that there is no neutral safety switch function. Is this common with this major modification. I know where the switch is on a column shift, anyone know where it might be on the floor shift?
Since the pickup was made with a manual trans, there was no neutral switch. The wiring is there, but a manual trans doesn't have a neutral switch.
The B&M Megashifter that I used to have, had a neutral switch inside, pull the cover off yours and take a look. Also look on the side of the trans, where the linkage connects. Some auto trannys have the neutral switch on the side of the trans.
The neutral safety switch is behind the linkage on the driver's side of the tranny. It fits behind where your shifter attaches with 2 small screws.
I had my C6 rebuilt a few years back and the newer version does not have a place for this safety switch to fit. So most likely, since yours was a modified version, it does not contain the place for this switch.
i just took out a 351m with a manual. i put in a built 408 with a c6. i know where the neutral safety switch is on the transmission i have that. where does the other end of the wiring plug in.
On the '78 F-150 4x4 that I converted from 4spd to automatic, a length of wiring runs from the neutral safety switch on the transmission to the upper passenger side of the bellhousing near the transmission fluid dipstick, and there it has a square connector I believe.
On the fire wall was a set of wires that looked the same and had a similar connector with a factory plug in it since this was a 4spd to begin with, so that is where I plugged it in.
We also looked at some other automatic fords we have and it seems that we hooked it up right, haven't got it running yet so I hope it works and hope this is understandable and this helps you.
In 78 they switched to the nuetral safety switch on the trans due to steering column mods. This guys truck being a 3 onthe tree orig will not have the prong to activate the swtich on the column. If his trans has the switch on it he could wire it up, or he will have to check on his aftermarket shifter.
Unless your aftermarket shifter has a place for one you are going to have to wire up a manual switch or convert it to a factory style column shift with a factory style nue/backup switch.
