Steering column-to-box coupling

Doing a power steering upgrade tomorrow, and getting all of the pieces ready to drop in. On my new PS box, it has a FULLY SPLINED shaft where the steering column coupler attaches to it.

However, the actual coupler on the base of my '78 steering column is only HALF splined, and half "blank." Did I get the wrong PS box, or were there variences between boxes and their input shafts throughout 1978?

I did mine on my 78 about 3 years ago and can't remember exactly, but I dont' remember it being any different. I didn't have to change anything from orginal, just replaced the box that bolted right up like the old one did.

the steering gear input shaft is fully splined. the coupler is only 1/2 splined. the smooth 1/2 is there so it will slide when it is tightened.
