Where would the neutral safety switch be on a C4 transmission? The truck is a 66, but I'm not 100% sure that the tranny is the original one. I'm installing a floor shifter this week, and want to make sure it's hooked up correctly.

Stock motor according to the warranty plate was a 240. The motor was swapped out at some point by the previous owner (wife's grandfather), and while I haven't checked the stroke, I would guess it's now a 300 (he doesn't remember), just because it's a much more common motor than a 240. I also don't know the age of the motor, but I suspect it's early to mid 1970's vintage.
Transmission is a C-4 with a column shift auto, but the column shift is incredibly worn, to the point that it has lots of slop and a nasty tendency to slip out of park into reverse, particularly when running. Since parts seem to be hard to come by from what I've read here, I'm putting in the floor shift instead.
As I mentioned, I'm not positive that the tranny is original, but I have no reason to think that it would not be, unless it was swapped over 20 years ago, but it is a C-4.
The reason i asked of you have the original column with automatic is that the neutral safety switch is located on the top of the column under the dash or on the transmission. Some are equipped like this and some are not. C4 trucks had either the COM equipped trucks only had a column mounted NSS
The Prefix on the trans tag if original for a 240 is PCZ-A, E and for a 300 is PCZ-C, F
And the factory service manual for the C4 automatic dual range automatic shows the procedure for adjusting the switch mounted on the column and also shows the procedure for adjusting a transmission mounted switch. The COM only shows the column adjustment procedure.

1965 F350 300 COM trans code: PDB-C / 1966 F350 COM trans codes: PDC-C & PDB-E.
A C4 would not have the same code as a COM. The codes change from yr to yr, but they'll never be the same for both.
In the parts catalog text under the NSS, it states that the 1965/66 F100/250 C4 NSS is transmission mounted (C4UZ-7A257-D), while the 1967 F100/250 240/300 NSS is column mounted (C7TZ-7A247-A).
There is no NSS switch part number shown for 1965/66 F100/250 240/300's with a C4 other than the p/n I typed above.
Garbz...I lnow you know these trucks very well, but all I have to go by is the parts catalog.
I should have some time to work on it this evening, but it's good to know that it looks like the switch is on the transmission itself. That will make this project easier.
I have never seen a stock NSS attached to a transmission on any 65 or 66 automatic equipped F100 or 250 that has come to my grubby hands. I have parted over 30 autos and all were with the NSS on the column. I have never run into a C4 equipped unit either all were COM's attached to 352 or 240, 300s. Hence the rare comment...
I Parted one truck that was a 66 that had a C4 and 300 on the warranty plate, but engine and trans were long gone. It had a NSS on the column.

Garbz
It was right there on the transmission. Covered in gunk, but it was there.
If you're installing an aftermarket shifter, the provisions for a NSS are usually included on the shift mechanism itself. I installed a B&M Megashifter in mine and there are micro switches for NSS and backup lights right on the shifter mechanism.

Yep. The little switch on the B&M is right next to the shift handle on the floor.
I haven't hooked it up yet, as I'm still working on the linkage part (ran out of time last night).
Once I started digging into the project, that part all made sense.
The old one is laying on the floor of my garage...
Also fits: 1964/67 Econoline with either a 170 or a 240 I-6.
Garbz: 1965/66 F100/250's w/300's used C4's / F350's with either a 240 or 300 I-6 used Cruise-O-Matic's.
NSS C4UZ-7A247-D same application for Cruise-O-Matic transmission? I have '65 Econoline 240 I6 with Cruise-O-Matic transmission and need to replace switch. Thank you!
When the C4 was introduced in 1964, it was referred to as C4 Cruise-O-Matic.
When the C6 was introduced in 1966 (cars), it was referred to as C6 Cruise-O-Matic.
Several years later, FoMoCo dropped Cruise-O-Matic, just called 'em C4 & C6.
Ok, GREAT! So C4UZ-7A247-D is the correct NSS for a '65 Econoline 240 I6 with C4 (CruisOMatic) Transmission? I found one and am going to buy it if it's correct number. Thank you!!!
