Talking Fuel filter housing problem

OK, I have read just about every thread on fuel filters and I have not read anything about the problem with my 96 PSD.

When I changed my fuel filter the black plastic stem that the fuel filter slips over is broke. It appears to be threaded where it fits into the housing. Also the top of the stem appears to have deteriorated away over time to the point that I can see a spring int he center of the stem.

My truck has 173,000 miles on it.

That's a new one on me. I suspect you'll have to replace more than just the stem, though. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.
Hopefully, someone that has run across this before will happen by.

And it is opposite threads also, right loose, left tight. I believe it takes a 7/8 crowfoot wrench to take it out.

Thanks everyone... Looks like Im headed to the dealer tomorrow... Im wondering if this is what caused my loss of mileage... granted Ive only had the truck for about a month.. but after changing oil and filters.... I lost about 5mpg... but then again it also got really cold..

Thanks,
Pat
