Just changed my fuel filter on my 07 5.4L Lariat today. This will be the second time i done this. So this time i go buy the filter come home go to change it and notice that the stems on the new filter are smaller than the stems on the current filter. I go back to the parts store and find out there is a difference between filters for a Flex fuel system and a Regular Fuel System. The Flex fuel filter has the smaller stems. I look at the window sticker that was on the truck when i bought it new and it says 5.4L ethanol Flex Fuel. But this filter will not work because of the thinner stems. So i buy the other one just like the one on the truck and fits perfect. Why i didn't run into this problem last time is beyond me, i must of thought i didn't have the Flex Fuel system and got it right. So is my truck a flex fuel Engine or not? Would the Vin # tell me this.

My 2006 has a black cap. It has the BP logo on it and says "Ford recommends BP Fuel".
The best way to determine is check your VIN the 8th digit will be V if it is Flex Fuel.
Chris
You would also have a bright yellow Gas cap if you had the flex fuel.
Sorry but not correct. I have a 07 F150 5.4 that's a flex fuel and I have a black gas cap on mine and it's factory. I have the window sticker and it shows it to be a flex fuel engine.
the standard filter has 5/16" connectors and the Flex fuel has 3/8" connectors.
Chris
So you are saying just the opposite of dccle251 who said the flex fuel filter stems are the smaller ones. BTW the 8th didgit on my vin is a 'V' and I have the black gas cap with the BP note on it.

Black gas cap or not THE VIN TELLS THE TALE!
If you have a "V" you have the flex fuel engine.

Shorebird, you took what I said wrong. I was just trying to say what you said. That I have the V and a black gas cap. So the color of the gas cap doesn't mean anything.
