Reading the Six-Speed clutch thread brought to mind a similar question: I have read in these forums that the dual-mass flywheel used on my 97 is likely to fail at some point and need to be replaced? Anyone have experience regarding the longevity of the OEM flywheel/clutch and what warning signs might I look for?
My truck has 74,500 miles on it now.
Thanks folks!
They go out at different miles. One thing to check is the rotational slack between the masses. It should be no more than 5/8". It usually starts to rattle and knock when going bad. We replaced a friends at about 130,000, the springs were about to come out. Most people replace it with a solid setup like Luk. You have to replace clutch and flywheel together if you go with a solid one. They are cheaper than OEM dual mass also! My friend loves his.
I have a question someone might be able to answer. I heard the F450 has a solid flywheel. Does anyone know if you could replace the dual mass setup with the F450 assembly. I was looking at the Luk and the price is still more then I want to pay.
Well, i was a stupid kid when i bought, started trashing it and then stopped rather quickly, now shes just a big pavement princess. Thanks for the compliments.
