I have an 02 Ranger, and i just noticed that the light be hind the Resume, Set Accel, Coast buttons is out, How hard is it to replace? I guess i need to take off the steering wheel, and go from inside. also what bulb or part is it that you need to replace? Also if any one know the bulbs # for the headlight switch backlight and behind the instrument cluster backlight i need to replace those too.
Are interior lights, backlighting, covered by warrenty?
You can get the cruise control switches from Ford for about 25 bucks, the bulbs are not a seperately serviceable item, at least according to Ford. Maybe because of this you can claim the switches are bad and get them replaced under warranty.
In any event, both sides (the buttons/switches) come wired together as a set. The wire runs underneath the steering wheel. If you have to, you can either pull the steering wheel and replace the switch set, or you can leave the steering wheel on and just splice in the one side of the switch set that needs repair.
Make sure you disconnect the battery for 5 mintues or so before you get going in order to disable the airbag system.
Regarding the bulb for the dash headlamp switch, I think that info can be found in this thread:
I've read in another thread where many people have solved this problem by simply ,rapping the area in question sharply with the back of the knuckles. This may require several attempts both in front and behind the immediate area.
Apparently this seems to be quite a common loose connection problem.
