65 dual exhaust

Hey guy's

I'm getting ready to do my engine swap from the way worn out unknown 6 cyl (2.5 quarts oil per 100 miles) over to my 302.
Anyway found Summit has house brand headers for under $80! at that price i can replace them three times and still be ahead of the ceramic coated ones. Any way I've used in the past a dual exhuast kit from Hooker headers but they only list it for the FE motor in the f100. Is the FE and the 302 that far off from each other? I'm thinking i'll just get the kit for the FE anyway and make it fit, but figured someone here might know.

Thanks for the help.

The differences between teh 302 vs. the FE are numerous. First off the FE's are big blocks, and the 302 of course is a small block.

Plus the exhaust bolts are way different. On the FE, they run above and below the ports, on the 302 they run to the sides of the ports.

Hope that helps.

44dwarf: Don't let anyone tell you there are differences between the 302 and the 352! They both use gasoline, they both are Fords, and they both are engines.
See?! They ARE similar!
Seriously, :-X11 the two are not similar at all, and are two different engine families. Look up the link below; it give a LOT of info on the Ford engine families. When I get home from work, I'll try to remember to send more links.

Yes i know there diffrent engines but is the dual exhuast routeing that much diffrent?
I'm going with headers for the 302 so i whould think that the FE dual kit should work fine.

i have a '65 with a 302 in it right now. i am running a set of headman headers part # 89150. i don't remember what year 302 i bought them for. but, they fit pretty well. i'm not sure what dual exhaust kit you are referring to. i just put flowmasters on mine, and had a welded up at a local shop. hope this helps.

Ended up with sumits house brand headers(sum-g9032 $79.50) and hookers daul pipe kit 16562 ($116.95). Doing it this way cost $208. Sumit has a all in one kit with headers and muffs and pipe for $196 but the pipes exit before the rear wheels and i don't like that. The hooker kit exit behind rear wheels at a 45 angle (under the tail light).
It should be here next week.
JC Whitney had a better tubbing kit (129.95) but it was a little more money but the kicker was it was $98 to ship it!!

You've got to watch Whitney's on stuff like that, it costs out the yingyang to ship some stuff. That's why I like dealing with Jeg's & Summit.....

On my 66 with a 5.0 I used the later model Mustang "shorty" headers and had the local shop do the exhaust system. I would have gone your route with the Summit or JCW parts but I needed to miss the fuel tank between the rails on the drivers side which made it a little more complex.

44, I plan to use the X-pipe setup from Spintech (Side exit GTS Kit with X-pipe). This system is designed for later model pickups but it looks easily adaptable to our trucks. Any local muffler shop will be able to fabricate the connection between the exhaust manifolds and or headers, and make up a couple of hangars. Check out their web site www.spintechmufflers.com
