Does anyone know where the fuel inertia switch is located on a 92 F150 4X4, 4.9L F.I.. The book I have is a Haynes manual for the Bronco and Pick-up trucks from 1980-1996. It tells me that it is located on the firewall, to the left of the brake pedal. Well it's not there on my Truck . I am trying to find it so I can relieve the fuel pressure, so I can replace the fuel filter. Any help would be appreicated.
I think mine was inside the truck, under the dash on the passenger side, behind the side panel. I used to have a 92, but it has been awhile so I am half guessing.
On my 96 f150 it is behind the kick panel on the passenger side. You dont have to remove the panel there is a groove cut out so you can push it down. You will need to pry it up so you may actually have to remove the panel.
If you want to releive the fuel pressure just do so at the schrader valve on the fuel rail.
On the 94 the switch is located behind the kick panel on the passenger side. I never heard of pushing the switch to releave pressure. why not just push the schrader valve on the fuel rail (cover your eyes).
Sorry to be ignorant, I'm a carburetor guy. Where is the schrader valve on the 5.0? I assume the fuel rail is the hard pipe manifold feeding the fuel injectors.
The advantage to tripping the inerta switch, with the engine running, is no gas spillage onto the engine. Relieving the pressure at the schrader valve will spill gas on the engine, and all over. If you have a hot engine this is not good. Ford's recommended proceedure, tripping the inerta switch, appears to presume a hot engine. A good presumption at a dealership.
JBarker - Yes that is the pipe, schrader valve is on the left side of the engine towards the firewall.
