FAB, what brand lift did you use? since you did the 8", what extra stuff did you have to do(brake lines, drive shaft)??? im not sure if i want to go with 6 or 8, but i want 37's. which would be better, will the 6 work, or do i need the 8 for that?
2000, how bad did your fuel economy go down, and what size lift do you have. i was lookng at 4.56, but it will be an extra 1500.00 for front and rear. i dont know if the 3.73 would be ok, or if its worth the extra to re-gear. i dont to too much towing. i live in a small island town in alaska with a speed limit of 25-50. we have a lot of steep hills, not ore than 1/4 mile long on average. thanks !!!
Im sure it lost a good bit but the chip kinda makes very tollerable now. I think I will probally regear. Just so it would be easier on the tranny life not having to shift so much. I would say I was planning on doing it soon but I have a few things ahead of gears on my list. New valves for tranny, torque converter, bigger turbo and either mod the stock wastegate actuator or buy the banks one, I think gears fall in place right around here somewhere.
i know they have lifts for them. but is 6" gona be enough? I mean whats the difference in height between 4x4 and 2wd stock..4"? so 6 is not very high and to spend 2gs on a lift that isnt gonna be impressive is not worth it. what do you think?

My fuel economy dropped from about 12mpg to about 8mpg. I have a 6.5" pro comp (garbage) lift on it. At this point, I'm gonna look for anything that'll give me a better ride, which is pretty much any other mfg right now. Anyways, regearing is definitely expensive. If you haven't lifted your rig yet, get the lift and all the goodies for it (rims, tires, etc) and THEN if you think you need gears, get 'em. Like I said before, I've learned to live with mine. I only tow occassionally (to the dunes) and it can still hold it's own on the highway. Towing 8000lbs at 3000rpm for 3 hours is good for these v-10's!
2000, thanks for the advice. i have not yet lifted it, i have done about a month of research and question asking so far. im not doing the lift until around june. so what is so bad about pro-comp? a lot of people say they dont like it. since i have the 5.4 i also wonder how that will hold up with the lift. i am thinking i want to go with a 8" and run 39's now. i may have to add a bracket lift to get an extra 2-3 inches i think. what are your opinions? thanks!!!
