I have a 99f150 5.4l v8 supercab 4x4 and I really need new shocks, any suggestions, I would like a smooth ride, dont do a lot of heavy hauling or towing but I do go offroading sometimes, nothing serious though, dont have a lift kit, I have bfg 285/75/16r all terrain tires and my front torsion bars are adjusted a little to clear the tires. I went two a few tire places and they said it would cost between 250-500 bucks, I think this is a little too much so I'm probably going to order the shocks online and then have someone install them, just dont know what I should get, I hear the rancho's are good, which model should I get, I dont want to spend a lot of money probably not more then $35 per shock less would always be better, thanks
I am very happy with my Monroe Sens-a-Trac shocks. I have them front and rear. They have a noticeably larger body than the OEM shocks.
I don't remember exactly how much they were, but they were NOT expensive. Maybe $20 each, or somewhere in that range.
They come with a lifetime replacement warranty. Not long ago, I took a set in with about 45,000 miles on them. No questions asked; they pulled a new pair out of the box, handed them to me, stuffed my old ones in the box and I was on my way.
KYB Gas-A-Just... Lifetime warranty. Awesome shocks. Great for the road and not too bad off roading. Little rough for off roading. But on the road it will handle really well.
BrianA thanks for the info these look like a pretty inexpensive shock, do you do any offroading? anyone else have the Monroe Sens-a-Trac shocks? any other suggestions on shocks?
On my wife's Exploder I installed Monroe Reflexes which would be the next step up from the Sens-A-Trac and I really like them. They really control body roll well.
Ok, I REALLY need shocks, at least on the front end because the driverside shock is broken, I dont want to do this myself and no one will install shocks that I would buy on my own so its going to be a little more expensive then I think it should be but anyway les schwab will do just the front shocks for about 110 and that is with gabriel shocks, dont remember what model but they said it was the biefiest shock they had, are these good shocks? anyone use them? thanks for the info
I been running Rancho rs5000 for years,love them.Nice hwy drive,then stiffen-up off-road.Plus,Buy them at Sears and the labors free.shocks are 49.00 ea.Also with a lifetime warranty.
Changing shocks is one of the easiest things that a DIYer can do. I'm not talking about Mcpherson struts, but regular shock absorbers. Very simple job.
Thanks for the info, wish I would have checked sears but I already ordered the shocks, got them from my4by.com for 33 bucks a piece, should be getting them any day soon. cant waite my ride is really bad right now, thanks for all the help
WOW its amazing how much of a difference replacing your shocks can make, as I stated my drivers side shock was completely busted in half, on thursday I installed the new rancho rs5000 to replace the broken drivers side shock, I didn't have time to replace the passenger side, it took a while to do the drivers side because I couldn't take my wheel, just that shock alone made a huge difference, bumps in the road where not as harsh, then yesterday morning it wosent raining so I installed the passenger side, WOW such a smooth ride now and it took away alot of the body roll in turns, I wish I had enough to purchase a set for the rear but I need brakes next.
Just wanted to say thanks for all the help and recomendations.
