I have a 98 Exp 4wd XLT, the overdrive light on the column started to blink. As its blinking the transmittion is either slipping or snatches from gear to gear. If I shut the truck off and restart it, the light will go off and the vehicle runs like it should. Then 10 min later the problem will return. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thx.
This happenned to my '99 Expy. I was told by others on this thread that this is a "check engine" light for the transmission. When the light blinks, the transmission goes into "safe" mode where the shifting is "jerky". Your best hope is to bring to a good transmission service place before more damage is done. In my case it was some sort of shift valve that cost about $300 to fix (ford dealer). No problems since.
FYI... I took it to AutoZone last night to see if an error code would come up. No code came up. (didn't figure it would). Guess I'll have to swing by Ford now.... Thx!
Just got it back. The T/C was coming apart, it thru metal shavings all thru the trans. Got a Reman from Ford, total cost was $2,800. (Ford didn't do the work)
