I agree With Aerocook and thorn..
I live in british columbia canada and 75% of the aerostars I see are the sport model, My 1994 was a sport, and I also agree that it was partly a ploy to hide the all too often rusting out rocker panels, mine were rusted right out, and I never noticed untill I took out the plastic trim on the running board when replacing a front fender. the sport package almost looked like a half assed body-kit on the aerostar, the only thing it woulda been missing was a piece under the back bumper... Question... how many of you have a spoiler on top of your tailgate on your vans? I have a spoiler on my 1991 that i bought off a 1997 at the wrecking yard for 20$ (they wanted 60 but i talked them down) it looks quite nice and it was already the same color so i didnt have to paint it.
I will take some pics today.. i am not sure how i will send them to you.. if there is a way to post them on here let me know, otherwise i can email them
Had to go get my EVTM manual and look buy you're right. However, that Aero also has integrated running boards to match the front spoiler. I believe there was a Sport model that carried those options however I've never seen one on the road.
I have a 92 sport with the airdam and running boards and it really does help the handling at speed-If you really care about a minivan that handles well above 80 MPH-However the airdam sucks in deep snow and parking spot curbs.
I do think it looks good though and, like previous posts mention, they are very plentiful in Canada. I would like to eventually put lower profile tires with 15 or 16" rims and a "small" wing on the back and maybe paint everything the same color so the 80's/90's "silver" thing is gone, and maybe make a cold air intake/K&N setup, get rid of the cats and resonator etc etc. Lets kill some Camaros!

That is why many models have that cheap, plastic body plastic, such as the Chevy Avalanche, Jeep Grand cherokee, and the best looking vehicle ever produced by an American manufacturer, the Pontiac Aztec. Plastic won't rust, so those vehicles in the rust belt states and Canada, should look okay, 10-15 years down the road. Any of you with those vehicles, living with road salt on winter roads, is there any rust issues with the cladding? I would think the doors, rocker panels, etc. could begin to rust underneath the plastic cladding, but you would not know. On the other hand, the galvenized sheetmetal used now, might be much more rust resistant that that used 10-20 years ago? Any snow belt owners, how about it, with rust? There are so many other alternatives to melting ice and snow than using the highly damaging road salt. Not only does road salt eat sheetmetal, it rusts out bridges etc. I know why cities in snow country use road salt... it's cheap and plentiful.
to make matters worst, in some regions of canada.. there's sand mixed into the salt batch. so our poor aero's get sand blasted as well while driving on the highway.

You are right. I'm from Ont, but posted to NB in 02. My poor Aero has rusted so fast out here. Between the salt air and salt on the road. It's just the Aerostar thing also. Two other friends with Aeros have the same rust. Rockers, Left side panel and the floor above the frame. Its a body design problem. I have found the parts cheap. Rockers for 30$, side panel 61$. The floor the shop is making them up. It's going to cost me 1200$ welded and painted. I'd could do them myself I have a mig and compresser.
70% of the sports were sold in Canada, 60% of EBs in the states for the yrs 90-96. I got the % from Bil.
Keep warm and drive safe.
