Both my '90 Eddie Bauer Ext and '91 XL Ext have a funky black airdam under and slightly behind the front bumper. It looks like a piece of flat fiberglass.
On the front cover of my EVTM is a picture of a 91 Star that has a nice looking sculpted front spoiler under the bumper. Is this just and artist freelancing or was there ever such a spoiler on the Stars????
At one time, there were a number of aftermarket "aero" parts that were available for the Aerostar. Most included some kind of air dam that went under the bumper, some wrapped around the front wheel arches, and some even went further back and turned into running boards. I can't remember if Ford ever offered such options, but I have seen them before.
Had to go get my EVTM manual and look buy you're right. However, that Aero also has integrated running boards to match the front spoiler. I believe there was a Sport model that carried those options however I've never seen one on the road.
Here in Canada, almost all of the 1993 and onward models were sport models with running boards and the air dam.
I think it was Ford's way of doing a model "Freshen up" to help increase sales.
seems to have worked, mine is a 92 without the sport package and around my area, you just dont see the plain ones, theyre all sport models.
Air dams work on cars to reduce drag. Does anyone know if they will reduce drag on a van?
Also, if a person can find one at the dismantler, will it bolt right up?

Reason: chaging wording
An air dam installed under the bumper can help keep air from getting under the car. If the undercarriage is really messy; ie, lots of parts in the air stream, the air dam will reduce drag under the car. An additional benefit of keeping air out of the undercarriage would be a reduction of lift.
If you can find an air dam on the same model of car as yours in the junk yard, you should get all the mounting parts around it as well as the air dam. This should increase your chance of installing it on your car.
Up here in Canada it seems that most Aerostars I see are "Sport" models with the air dam & running boards. I suspect that the real reason for then was to hide the disintegrating rocker panels so that by the time they were noticed, the rust warranty was gone.
Yeah.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
I thought about the rust thing too, it’s true; most of the rocker panels in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1lace w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Canada</st1:country-region></st1lace> are gone.<o></o>
Did you ever notice that they painted all of the running boards and air dams on the sport models silver? <o></o>
All sport models (except silver) have two tone paint with the bottom half being silver.<o></o>
I guess that made things easier and cheaper during production <o></o>
