another quick question i keep meaning to post:
from the start of cranking the engine, i get a lot of little pops like a small backfire combustion -- usually coming from the passenger bank or it could be at the manifold collection pipe....right there in that general area. timing adjustments dont seem to make any difference. ideas?

Modulator...crawl underneith and look at the back-end of the main section of the trans. Right behind the pan. should see something with a vacuum line coming off it.
Might want to start a new thread for that back window...Less confusion and you may get a few new interested parties.(more input)
Check your wire routing too, there is a sticker that warns about crossfire from cyls 1 and 3, and 5 and 8 I think, If the wire run to parallel it can spark the other cylinder at the wrong time.
If you run 2 wires side by side for any kind of distance, when you send a current thru one, sometimes it will induce a voltage in the other. (causing a cylinder to fire out of turn) Doesn't happen very often, but it can if you run your wires in a bundle.
Hukd if you want some info on the tailgate window go to the "Big Broncos" forum and do a search within that forum. We just discussed that topic a couple of months ago. Or yo can just post a new thread there.
so, its been a while since i updated anything.
truck was running fine other than that hard downshifting. never did get that oil pressure sensor installed; nor did i get around to checking the modulator for the tranny.
the biggest thing happened thursday morning on the way to work. i pulled into wal-mart to get a few things and some gas. when i pulled up to the pump, i noticed flames under the hood! after throwing 4 gallons of water I had in the back on the fire and scaring the crap outta everyone, i had to wait another two hours to get someone from work to bring the wrecker. later that day, i pulled the upper intake off and discovered that my fuel rail crossover tube (plastic.....ARRRRGGGHHH!!!!) had melted and when the gas hit the hot metal....BOOM! so, gotta replace 4 injectors, the harness, the IAC plug and the dist. cap, and the vac lines.
think i shoulda just shot this thing in the beginning.

Now I could be wrong, but I believe the 89 engine is the MAF (mass air flow), whereas the 86 is not, consequently the PCM will not run both model engines.
I am having very similar problems with my 89 302 right now so I figured
maybe someone would read this and throw a comment that could help.
Guess I was only right on the first part.
