Yea, I just destroyed 25 feet of chain, what happens is all the links stretch, then whichever one is wrapped around something swishes flat and breaks clean off. Mine skidded along the ground and hit my rear axle. Luckily it did not take out the brake lines.
I hung a 20" wide DBH oak tree and I could not move it off the stump for nothing with a jack or a 4 ton come-along and tackle blocks.
Yanking it worked, though the first two times I broke chain. In the end a 10 foot running start dumping the clutch with the 390 and granny four speed prevailed. It is possible to leave rubber marks in mud, I was told it looked impressive with my old Ford yanking the tree down and dragging it along for a ride
I pulled it 12 feet off the stump and dropped the tree between my safety lines where I wanted it. I really need a hydraulic winch once I get power steering...
That big thing in my bed is a 1.5 inch thick piece of plastic to cover up the small area of glass between my bed (1/8 plate) and cab top just in case a chain broke it made it into my bed somehow.
I love my 15T pintle hook. It is the best thing to hook straps, chains, and cable to for some serious pulling.
Isn't a "****** strap" and a "toe strap" the same thing?
Ditto on the biggrer clevis idea. And, when you guys wash the strap, do you use fabric softener? I've heard some poeple tell me it's better for them and others say it's worse.
