I have a 1980 F-250 and I have dana 60-3 on the rear end. I had one of my co-works look up the gear ratios of 3.54 and have a semi float and have checked my sticker on my truck to be sure that it is a F-250 and it has a 8000 gvw for the truck. Was a semi float a option that Ford put out instead of a full float.
Semifloating rear axles were used widely in the early 80s trucks these 250s with the Dana 60 or 10.25 SF axles were no more than a beefed up 1/2 ton truck. Ford had the option of light duty and heavyduty F-250s to the early 90s then went to heavydutys only but all the lightduties used 10.25 semifloater and the heavies used the 10.25 full floater.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Oct-02 AT 00:11 AM (EST)]The early 80's F250's(up to 83, maybe 84)used a D60 semi-float, or a D60 or 70 Full float, around then they started using the Sterling axles too... So, you could have a Dana 60 or Sterling 10.25 Semi Floater a D60 or 10.25 full float, or a D70. I've only seen Dana 70's in 80's F250's with diesel engines.
My 86 is an 8800# GVWR 460 powered 4x4, and, it has a 10.25 full floater. It was an Ex. cab LWB until I got it...

Well I have a long box F250 ( 1980) 4x4 with the D60 semi-floater in it . My sticker on the door reads 8800 GVW . I have seen an 80 with a FF on this board but thats the only one so far .
I have 3.54 ratio , limited slip .
Thanks everyone for your heelp. Now I know they did make semi float for F-250s. I had coworkers telling me that it was F-150 and im happy to know that it isnt. Thanks again.

>Thanks for some of the info, my truck is 4x4 and a long bed.

I have noticed that with 4x4 F-250s ('85 and up) with a gwvr of 8600' and up have sterling 10.25" full floaters, where as '84 and down seem to have dana 60 full floaters.
under 8600' seem to get semi-floaters.
easy way to tell if you have a dana or a sterling is: you can take the brake drum off of a 10.25" without taking off the hum
