CHARGING PROBLEMS

I am having a problem with my 1985 E150 Van, 302/automatic. The charge is not getting from the alternator to the battery. I have had the alternator and the battery checked out, both are good. I have replaced the solenoid and the regulator. The problem must be between the alternator and the solenoid. What does a fusable link look like when it have burnt out and broken it's link? The one one my van appears to be fine. I'm going to test the black/red wire that goes from the alternator to the solenoid to see if there is a break of some kind, what else could possibly be wrong? When I first noticed this problem, my battery began to go down slowly, and then would not get charged back up at all. When I jump start with another car or fresh battery, it starts up just fine. Any help is appreciated, I am not very good at electrical systems.

CHARGING PROBLEMS

Fusible Link's are usually PINK.

I would have two differnt places test the battery to be sure.

You might get the V.O.Meter out and check for continuity on that wire.

CHARGING PROBLEMS

You can tell a fusible link wire is burned by pulling the ends apart gently. If it's good, you can't; if it's burned, the insulation will stretch at the point it's broken.

CHARGING PROBLEMS

Check your body ground. Ford electric problems usually stem from the grounds. Try running a wire from the regulator to the neg. battery post. Use a ring washer on one of the screws holding the box to the fender along with a serrated washer.
