i have recently experienced sluggish excelleration and very little power. I first thought it was a filter or pump. The filter was replaced and i put a new high powerd pump in that sits on the frame. these did not solve my problem.
I put the old pump back in and now it wont even start. my next move is a fuel pressure regulator.
any other suggestions?
my truck had some problems. it would jump and buck when you accelerated alittle bit. you would have to ride down the road going about 30mph and if you went any faster it would buck. so we drained the fuel because it was about 2 years old becuase the truck was stored and we put new fuel in and we couldnt get it to start. so we bought a new fuel pump, put new plugs and wires and all new filters and it still has the same porbolem..any ideas?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Oct-02 AT 00:53 AM (EST)]Anytime my '86 has random wierd symptoms the first thing I do is slap in a new ignition control module (on the side of the distributor).
They'll cause some pretty goofy things to happen when they're failing and when they die completely the engine won't start - it'll crank and crank but won't fire.
i had similar problems with my inline efi I've replaced everything form tank up to injectors twice on my inline and am starting on my f-250 302. Sounds like the filter in the tank on the end of the intank pump. replace that and clean out your hoses and filters and it might do ok.
I had similar problems, also replaced filters and a few mechanics tried to get me to replace fuel pumps wich I did not. I replaced the fuel pressure reg. and that did the trick. runs like a champ after that. good luck. let me know.

depends on what truck you have and what engine. In a carb model, I would suspect timing being retarded. Check your timing, plugs, cap and rotor, wires etc...
if you are fuel injected, I am not even gonna guess. they confuse the heck outta me.
On the 86 460, the ignition control module is not always on the distributor, some are on the fenderwell.
