Front Axle Swap

I have a 92 F-250 4x4 with IFS. I want to swap to a straight front axle with the least amount of brake and sterring conversion possible. I think a one ton from the same era will work. I am planning on putting gears in it anyways so that doesnt matter. Does anyone know what truck to look for or hase anyone done it?

80 and up f-350 will have a Dana 60 that is what you want to look for! Good luck they are big$$$$

It's a very straightforward swap. But as dsldandually said, Dana 60s aren't cheap. Make sure you get the steering linkage (everything below the pitman arm), track bar and bracket, U-bolt brackets, and front driveshaft (it's about an inch shorter).

Also, try to get the axle from a 92-96 truck. The brake calipers are different on the older axles, and it will throw off your front to rear brake balance. That's what happened to me anyway.

'80-'85 F350 4x4's had the independent front axle like the F250's (Dana 50). '86-'97 F350's were straight axle. '86-'91 had kingpins and '92-'97 had ball joints, both Dana 60's.
