generic super charger?

guys, bear with me for a min. Let's suppose I re-rout the plumbing of my stock "smog pump" so that the inlet comes through a fancy aftermarket filter, and send the out put hose right into my air intake tube for the engine, infront of the mass air sensor. Would this be a cheapo + worth while super charge? The smog pump is currently just exhausting into my pass. wheel well any how. & I'm in the process of installing BBK underdrive pulleys & electric fan. But I'm still turning the stock sized smog pump basicly for no reason, so... WHY NOT SUPER CHARGE WITH IT!! P.S. if anyone knows the volume & or psi of this pump I'd love to know! THanx to all!

Trust me. The smog pump doesn't even put out the volume of air that your engine pulls in on its own. You aren't the first person who has thought of this though. And no, it won't even help just a little bit. Even if you used a smaller pulley.

not giving up yet

Thanx for the reply steve, now 1st off, if all else fails, I'll just gut the pump and have a free wheeling pulley that LOOKS like it's right. BUT, being a machinist, & having access to some small gear ruduction apparati, I'm gonna measure the out put of a stock smog pump, calc. the CFM, and through pulley size & possibly some added gearing between the pulley & the impeller...who knows?! Considering the alternative starts at about $2300!

I really hope that you make it work. If you do, you'll be the first. Maybe you can start a new business? I really don't think the bearings and compressor are up to the rigors of putting out the number of cfms, nor the pressure needed to generate more horsepower. They just weren't engineered for this.

Bach in the day, people were converting big truck superchargers to gas engines all the time. They still do in fact. 6-71, 8-71, 12-71 blowers. All it takes is some type of adapter.
