i have reason to believe that i may have the culprit but am not sure
86 f-150 2wd
wobble in front during acceleration and deceleration between 25-40 and also reappears at about 65-70 mph
would warped rotors cause this ??
or what else could it be??.....i am hesitant to go out and take it all apart seeing as how i have no garage and it is below 30-degrees outside and besides i hate bad news
sounds like you may have 2 problems. number 1 sounds like a bad tire, i e broken belt. number 2 sounds like a tire balance problem. your problem may be all on one tire, or it may be on 2 tires. let somebody pull your truck forward in a straight line slowly and watch the tires from the front and from the rear. you should be able to see if one is crooked. if the tread has a curve in it replace the tire before it blows out.
update: i believe for one there is alignment issues, my tires have been close to bald arond the outer edge and it pulls to the right too. i have noticed the passenger side front tire is tilted in. There is a clunking sound when making a sharp left turn. this problem almost seems as if this tire is moving in a direction that it shouldnt be.and i have yet to figure out the source of my wobble i am starting to wonder if this is possibly a tie rod end?...god i am in a tight spot here i am currently jobless and with little cash i cant take it to a shop and drop this on theyyre lap and say find my problem! so i am trying my best and hoping that it something i can fix at home
and as a side note what would cause my truck to appear to be going down the road slightly crooked as in the rear tires are slightly off to the right from the front set
any more info would be helpful god i need a job!!!
Sounds like your down on your luck right now. Don't add to that an accident. Get the front end looked at ASAP.
You may have a bad ball joint, loose wheel bearings, etc. Jack the front end up and shake the tires, in and out, up and down, back and forth. Watch all the moving parts for slop.
As far as going down the road dog legged, this could happen if the rear axle was out of alignment. Possibly from loose u-bolts. Keep in mind the axle width in the front is wider than the rear so it always looks like the front end is sticking out to the causual observer.
also a lot of these trucks look like the front tires are tilted in at the top. that is an optical illusion, they are not. but do get the front end checked if you think there is a problem.
<<gets on his soap box and begins with "ahem ahem"
to those that this is concerning ,after further analysis of my clunk/wobble issue i have reason to believe that the source of my problem is wheel bearings because the only looseness that i noticed during my wobble this way and that way test is the driverside tire seems to have quite a bit of play so i called a friend who is knowledgable in the automotive field to come watch as i wobble and he without reasonable doubt sait it seems to be a wheel bearing issue because there is nothing else moving other than the wheel and hub assy.when i wobbled and got the -tink tink sound- so due to the fact that the bearings are under 5$ at the local auto zone i am having him help me achange these friday...
<<<<<steps down from his soapbox and as he is walking away he yells "oh yeah i hope you all wish me luck"
my wobble my drivers side retaining nut for the wheel bearings...etc..was a lil on the loose so i had chked the outer wheel bearing and it had a small bit of slop so i changed it and reassembled it snugging down the nut and reinstalling the lock and cotter key thing...
took it for a ride and still the wobble so that wasnt my problem ...went to the next street over from me and got my mechanic friend and handed him the keys and said " DRIVE THIS " and so we took the truck on the city streets and then off to the highway we went and he now is pointing at a broken belt i the drivers side tire(front) and he just so happened to have a set of 2 235/15's stored at his sisters house in the area so we went ,picked em up and tomorrow between me and him we are mounting em on my rims and putting them on
wish me luck...currently i have everthing possible that i can think of crossed hoping it is just a broken belt..--except for my pos and neg batt cables
