After a long period of being bored with my '90 shorty's interior i have decided to make a few mods. Originally it had 7 passenger seating; 2 captains up front, 2 captains in the middle, and a bench in the back. Well, i never have that many people with me anyways so i figure that i dont need all the capacity. So, i trashed the bench in the back, moved the 2 captains back to the rear, and recarpeted the back of the van. I have plans to build some sort of table to fill some of the open space in the middle but nothing has been done yet. Im gonna go to the junkyard and get two of the consoles that go between the driver and shotgun seat and install them between my two sets of seats. What im really trying to find is a way to make the front two seats swivel around so they can face the rear of the van. I have seen boat seat swivels at walmart but im not sure how i can make them work. I'd also have to make some sort of locking mechanism so that they wouldnt swivel when i dont want them to. When im done i want the van to be something that you dont see everyday...So Im gonna drop it several inches, put 16 inch rims and tires on it from a late model taurus, custom mold myself some fiberglass bumpers for the front and the rear, dual exhaust (will probably put fart cans on it though), install one kick butt stereo system, and get it custom painted metal flake blue. Its a work in progress but i should have it completed in the not so distant future...Oh and for those who might be thinking that it is all show and no go; I put in 4.10 gears with positrac, am completing my dual exhaust without cats (custom made y pipe--thats where the restriction is), getting a transgo shift kit for the A4ld (also putting on the biggest cooler i can find), electric fan, and a 75hp shot of nitrous is coming. I know, i know its not a race car, its a minivan, but I hate it when a vehicle looks great but has no ***** under the hood, and im not looking for fast, im looking for quickness off the line and up to 90mph. Its kinda like the mid '90s ford ranger minitrucks that people spend $20,000 customizing. They look great but most have the stock 2.3 4 cyl engine. What a shame. Well anyways, i will take some pics as i go along, i have a feeling that i have a whole lot of work ahead of me.
The seats need the Swivel pedestal from a old custom van. They don't make them anymore cause of the law. They will bolt right to them.
If you drop it, You will need custom coil springs made which is easy. The table can be pick-up at any motor home place. I would pick up a few extra pedestal cups, So you can move it to a couple places.
Think about custom headers for your NOS system and bigger valves.
